From an early age trees have held a fascination for me, their beauty, energy, individualism, and the power they hold over a landscape.
Exploring the subject of ‘Trees and Landscapes’ my paintings have been a study in developing a language and style that I am comfortable with. The smaller abstract paintings illustrate groves of trees, the colours representing earth and sky, the full moon celebrating completion and transformation.
The two river landscapes capture the radiance of dusk and the ever-changing affect that shadows and colours have on a landscape.
My large black and white paintings illustrate the stark individualistic nature of trees, their limbs either askance and asymmetrical, or in one of them truncated, contained, conservative and not so expressive.
The painting ‘Monument’ was a finalist in the 2022 NZPPA awards
